About Me

I am Dhyaana Shah, a student at Ahmedabad International School, deeply passionate about sustainability and the welfare of our community. From an early age, I witnessed how people around me neglected the environment—polluting water, air, and land without considering the long-term health consequences. This troubling reality inspired me to take action. I joined a project dedicated to the welfare of agriculture, water, and the environment, eager to contribute directly to creating a better world. As I engaged more deeply, I realized that while many efforts focus on improving community conditions, the people who form the backbone of these communities often remain overlooked. This realization shifted my focus—literally and figuratively—towards the individuals whose wellbeing is critical yet frequently ignored.  My name, Dhyaana, means “focus,” and this quality has been my greatest strength and guiding principle throughout my journey. It led me to launch my own initiative, "Project DHYAAN," which strives to shine a light on the lesser-known problems within our community. One of our key campaigns, Trash to Treasure, focused on promoting proper waste disposal and fostering clean, green surroundings. But my mission didn’t stop there. I turned my attention to the often invisible yet indispensable workers who maintain hygiene and cleanliness in our surroundings—the sewage workers. These individuals work under hazardous conditions to keep our drainage systems functioning, yet their struggles remain largely unrecognized. Through drives distributing safety kits and personal interactions, I gained a deeper understanding of their daily challenges. My passion for science drove me to combine my interest in biology with the welfare of these underserved workers, conducting research that revealed the severe impact of their working conditions on their health—effects that extend down to their genetics, posing risks not only to themselves but to future generations. This blend of focus, passion, and scientific inquiry fuels my commitment to advocate for both the environment and those who serve it selflessly. With Project DHYAAN, I strive to create awareness and actionable change, dedicating myself to the betterment of our planet and the often underappreciated community of sewage workers. My journey continues, driven by the belief that true progress comes when we focus not only on the environment but also on the people who sustain it.
